Instructor Tip

Another element of variation is the use of short or long levers. Long levers refer to movement from the shoulder joint or hip joint. Examples of a long lever would be: Front raises or pendulum swings or extensions. Short lever movement originates from either the elbow joint or knee joint. Examples of short lever movement would be: bicep curls or knee lifts. A combination of both utilized in your classes is recommended. During the warm-up short lever to long lever would be more consistent with the use of the bell curve. During your cardio portion both levers should be used ending with short lever movement to decrease intensity.

Question: You are unsure about the bpm on a tape or Cd that you will use in class. How do you go about counting the bpm?

Answer: Count the number of underlying beats for 15 seconds, multiply by 4 or count for 30 seconds, multiply by 2.

Did you know that?

A maximum of 5 repeaters in a row is the limit to be used within a single pattern. Protect the body from unnecessary biomechanical stress as the leg that is on the step supports the body weight.
